Walking Blind Through a Blizzard Meaning & Lyrics

Hey,

A few guys have asked me what the meaning is behind this song, Walking Blind Through a Blizzard, so I figured I’d better deliver.

Let’s first start with the lyrics so you know what I’m talking about here.

Walking Blind Through a Blizzard Lyrics

Today was the worst day yet and you’re ready to give up.
You lost direction like your eyes are frozen shut.

When you reach both arms, you feel nothing in front of you.
When the white out surrounds you, the sun will come into view.

I promise things will get better. They never stay like this for long.
You’re walking blind through a blizzard. Just build a fire and wait for dawn.

No one can teach you this, but the world can fuck you up.
You could be face down in the snow with more to come.

Your feet get heavier with every single step.
But out in the tundra is the only challenge left.

When you reach both arms, you feel nothing in front of you.
When the white out surrounds you, the sun will come into view.

I promise things will get better. They never stay like this for long.
You’re walking blind through a blizzard. Just build a fire and wait for dawn.

You’re feet get heavier with every single step.
But out in the tundra is the only challenge left.

I promise things will get better.
I promise things will get better.

I promise things will get better. They never stay like this for long.
You’re walking blind through a blizzard. Just build a fire and wait for dawn.
And wait for dawn.
And wait for dawn.

What the Heck is this Song About?

The topic of this song is actually a mixture of two things.

First of all, someone very important in my life has had crippling anxiety issues.

I don’t want to mention her name directly, but I’m very aware of how difficult this can make things for her.

This was the first motivation for the song.

I was trying to think of a strong metaphor that would describe how she feels when she’s going through a severe panic attack and in my mind, I got the visual of a hectic snow storm.

Like, she’s just reaching out in the white, trying to find something that will bring her back to safety and reality.

A lot of the times, it’s hard for her to know what’s a real, rational thought, and what isn’t during these attacks and that’s what i was trying to recreate.

Plus, I’m always trying to reassure her that things are going to get better (hence the chorus line)

I’m not sure she even realizes the song is about here and I kind of like it that way, so I don’t have to go through the embarrassment of explaining it. lol

Now, the second thing that molded this song was simply me watching the movie The Grey featuring Liam Neeson at the time.

I can remember when that movie came out and thinking,

“Damn, what a badass and what a beautiful movie.”

Plus, I generally loved the scenery and the struggle throughout the whole thing. If you haven’t’ seen it yet, I highly recommend it.

He essentially gets thrown into an impossible situation and has to fight his way through the wilderness and it’s really the impending doom of the cold and the wolves that sets the scene for the whole thing.

Very cool movie.

But that’s it. Walking Blind Through a Blizzard is definitely one of my favorites on the album and I think it has a more mainstream sound to it as well.

Do YOU have an interpretation of the song? Leave a comment and let me know.

Thanks,

Kyle
